Loving Lately : Jane Fonda

Isn't she just the cutest? A friend posted a trailer for Barbarella on Facebook, and since then, I've been googling and watching trailers for old Jane Fonda movies. I just can't get over her perfect 60's/70's look (the hair!!). I'm also really looking forward to getting around to watching Barbarella. Yes, I'm a nerdy lady who enjoys campy sexy space travel movies...

I hope to be back in this space soon. I know it's been quite a while since I've popped in to say hello. I've been a very busy bee with school and my internship (I should post about that sometime...). Only 2 more weeks of Fall semester! Woo Hoo! Jeez the time has been flying lately. I'm still waiting for September to start, but apparently it's Christmas time. Who knew? xoxo Natalie

Loving Lately : Maps + Globes

I always have liked maps and globes. I guess it's just thinking of all the adventures I'd like to have one day, and realizing how little I've seen in the world and how much there is left for me to discover. I guess it doesn't hurt that I've been taking a Geography class that is furthering my knowledge of these places I've just looked at from afar. I found these neat globes here, and wish I could have every one of them to sprinkle around my home for inspiration.

Alex and I got back from our little weekend getaway in Tennessee with our friend Erik yesterday. It was nice to get out of town for a bit for a little kayaking and relaxing in the country. It's back to the old grind in the morning. I hope you had a lovely weekend too.

Style Inspiration : Freaks and Geeks

Freaks and Geeks is one of my favorite shows. It reminds me of my not-so-glamorous high school days. Yes, indeed, I was a freak. It was painfully embarrassing, yet highly enjoyable. I'm proud to say I was a freak in high school. I learned a lot from it. And hey, if I weren't, then I wouldn't have met that scraggly boy wearing torn jeans, band shirts and long stringy hair that would turn out being the love of my life. Yes, being a freak was a good thing for me.

Here are a few looks (slightly) modernized and catered to women. I have to say, even though this was set in 1980, the style was shockingly similar to my high school days nearly 25 years later.

My high school style was pretty much exactly the same as Nick's. I sprinkled in a little bit of Millie here and there (for work mostly), but band shirts, brown cords and converse sneakers with a ton of Sharpie doodles on them were my uniform for years. I wish I still had those Chuck Taylors.... Nowadays I'm all over the place. I have worn outfits very similar to all of these in the past 6 months. That's the fun of fashion though. It changes with your mood, and really can turn your day around.

What was your high school style? Who's look here are you loving?

Loving Lately : ShoeMint

I'm sure by now everyone and their mother has heard about ShoeMint, but I just couldn't help sharing my little love affair with this awesome company. Designed my Rachel Bilson, and made by Steve Madden, these shoes are absolutely stunning. When you sign up for this members-only online shop, you are prompted to take a style quiz, then every month or so you receive an email with a special selection of shoes picked out especially for you and your style. I have to say, I get a smile on my face when I see those emails in my inbox. Even if you can't afford these beauties, they sure are fun eye candy. Here's a few looks from my personalized June Showroom...

If you haven't already signed up for ShoeMint, I suggest you do so. You are not obligated to buy anything, and those eye candy emails are worth it.

Loving Lately : Arrow Jewelry

A while back I got an arrow ring from Target, that I just can't stop wearing. It's big and chunky, just the way I like rings to be. I think my obsession with The Hunger Games has also played a role this little love affair with the aesthetic of a feathered arrow. I like that I can be on-trend, and also be nerding out with Hunger Games gear at the same time. Thank you trend gods...

...Now if they could just make it acceptable to wear my cat's face on a blouse. Or even a "Cat Parking 24/7" sweatshirt a la Kristen Wiig.

P.S. I cried during the last "sketch" on SNL this past Saturday. I'm gonna miss that lady.

Loving Lately : The Hunger Games

If you've been around here lately, you know by now that I am deep into Hunger Games mania. I read the first book in a few days, and the second is on my coffee table staring at me this very moment, begging to be read. Needless to say, my housework as taken a back seat... just for one more chapter...

I tried to avoid all the hooplah around the whole thing, thinking it was just another Twilight saga, assuming it would be completely corny with cringe-worthy teenage love (which I have to admit, there was a little), but overall I was pleasantly surprised when my mom took me to see the movie on opening day. She had been looking forward to it for so long, even purchasing the tickets well in advance, and my dad was out of town, so I went with her... I was curious after all. Now I'm hooked. I've seen the movie twice, the second time with Alex at the drive-in. I cannot wait to get through these books, but then I may have withdrawal... Oh, the horror! And let's not forget that Katniss and Peeta are both from Kentucky.... gotta love that....

If you haven't checked it out yet, I suggest swallowing your pride and going for it. I did, and I'm not sorry for it.

For those Hunger Games fans: Team Peeta or Team Gale? Me... so far, I'm all Peeta. Don't judge, he is an artist after all...

May the odds be ever in your favor,
Natalie

Loving Lately : Pastels

We've all noticed that pastels are huge this spring, and to tell you the truth, I kind of hated it at first. Pastels have always been about easter, and those terrible frilly dresses people put on their children for the holiday. But now, I'm glad to see that they have been updated and feel a lot more grown up. So sweet and even (dare I say it) chic.

I can't seem to get the links to work, so if you want to know the sources of these beauties, go to the polyvore set here. Sorry!

Loving Lately : Anatomical Art

I'm in the final stretch of my painful Anatomy class. Woo Hoo! These days everything I see, hear or even smell (okay, not really smell) reminds me of something from class that I really need to know for my upcoming final. I'm sure my anatomical terms and silly bits of body chemistry in everyday conversation is driving Alex a little nuts. Woops!

Looking through my Anatomy book I can't help but notice how wonderfully beautiful the human body is... and luckily so do these Etsy crafters...

This Blew my mind! Look at that detail! Found here via AnatomicalQuilling

Gotta love inner ear earrings, so fun! Inner Earrings via mdavisstudios

There are a ton of anatomical beauties on Etsy, I love it! There may or may not be a project in my near future involving this.

Loving Lately : Jennifer Lawrence

It's hard not to fall in love with her. Louisville's own Jennifer Lawrence is so wonderful in the Hunger Games, and after reading her interview in last month's Glamour magazine (yes, I just now got to it...), I can't help but have a girl crush on her. She's so down to earth, and I just love a girl who is classy in every way but curses like a sailor, and is a total badass. I hope to one day pull that off... I doubt it though. She's just so beautiful, and... real.

she looks absolutely stunning in this photo, found here. Makes me really wish I nabbed that issue of GQ!

It's awesome to see such a great and huge star come from good ole Louisville, Kentucky!

Loving Lately : Scalloped Edges

So dear and sweet, scalloped edges are a detail I'm looking out for this spring. Really digging them on shorts!

Until next time!
Natalie

Loving Lately : Color Block Shoes

I have to admit, it took me quite some time to get into the look of color blocking on shoes... but now, I can't seem to get enough. Funny how that works. Now if only I had room in my closet for more shoes....

I've been seriously considering buying the two on the left. So sweet!

Much Love,
Natalie

Loving Lately : Peter Pan Collars

As Spring is starting to set in for good, I find myself browsing online for silky, pretty, light colored tops, and have noticed my natural gravitation towards the Peter Pan collar. Such a sweet little detail, that can make all the difference. What do you find yourself gravitating towards this Spring?
